About the blog

The purpose of this blog:

This blog is a dialogue to bring the story of the bible together with the story of our lives for understanding and authentic change.

The bible tells the true story of our perfect God-made creation, which was destroyed by cataclysmic man-made sin and evil, and then rescued by the most impossible comeback story imaginable.  In the telling of the story God’s dream for our creation is revealed to us.  God’s dream since before time began can be summed up in the word shalom.  Shalom is the idea of a Christ centered community of peace, care, abundance, and universal harmony.  It is the dream of how God wants His people to live together.

Shalom is still God’s dream for His people, even though humanity moves steadily to discord and division as it seeks desperately to be its own god.  God will bring it to perfection in the future, because God’s dreams come true.  This will be done in full when Jesus Christ returns for His bride – the faithful Christ-followers around the world and across time.  Until then, Christ-followers seek to bring about shalom within the localities they find themselves.  These localities begin with ourselves, then our families, then friends, neighbors and church, and then out into the marketplace.Woman at the well

To bring about His dream, God cares about certain things like love, truth, justice, charity, and holiness.  Consequently to be a Christ-follower is to care about the things that God cares about.  As we let go of the self-destructive demand to make life work on our own terms, and embrace the truth of Jesus Christ, we learn to care more and more about the things He cared about.  As brothers and sisters in Christ our goal is not just church, or bible reading, or avoiding social taboos and obvious sins, our goal is learning to care the way Jesus cared.

My prayer is that this blog can be an aid in our journey to care like Jesus.

Nice work and thanks for the Faz tribute. Missed the funeral as I was doing Wish’s wedding. Cambodia man….let us have it

  2. This is totally phenomenal. The essence of your creed is so insightful and true. It has given me a lot to think on and ponder. This will be a useful tool for me to use as a base to form my creed. You have really opened my eyes to look at myself on several things you mentioned.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Have a save journey to Cambodia.

  3. You read us the creed a couple of years ago in an adult ed class- it was powerful then and again now. Thanks for the reminder. I’ll be printing this off and putting it on the fridge. I’m excited to see how this blog takes off. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
